STORY: Farewell to Ian Melling

Ian Melling, past Chairman of the Briitsh Society of Baking, passed away peacefully at home on Friday the 21st February 2020.

There will be a Thanksgiving Service on Monday 9th March 2020 at 13:45 at Gold Hill Baptist Church, Gold Hill East, Chalfont St Peter, Bucks  SL9 9DG.

Should anyone wish to attend they would be most welcome.

Ian joined the BSB in 1975 and was a member until his retirement. He stayed in touch thereafter as a retired member.

He was BSB Chairman in 1991-1992 and served on various committees during the 1980s and 1990s.

Ian trained as a baker and worked initially for bakery companies, teaching part-time at the National Bakery School, where he may have trained as well.  He then moved on to the bakery equipment side of the industry, finishing his career as Managing Director of Record Bakery Equipment.

In his day Ian was a very enthusiastic BSB member and contributed to its success. Only 3-4 years ago he offered a wide range of the bakery books in his collection to bakery colleges as a donation, including the NBS. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him in the BSB and in the baking industry in general.
