STORY: Birds backed WellChild for London Marathon

Birds Bakery showed its support for WellChild, by donating a portion of the proceeds from its special-edition gingerbread biscuits in the run up to the London Marathon last weekend.

Its operations manager Karen Wain also took part in the marathon to raise much-needed funds for the charity, which provides care for seriously ill children and young people in the UK.

Everyone twho took part was assigned a child, who is part of the WellChild family - Karen ran for Noah, who has a very rare form of interstitial lung disease.

Karen said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in the marathon and supporting WellChild and the fantastic work they do. Noah’s condition means he struggles to breathe and needs 24-hour care, so these funds are so important for these children.

“Thanks to additional care and support, Noah will be able to attend a mainstream school and have a better quality of life. Thank you to everyone who has donated already, and I’ll see you all at the finish line.”

Mike Holling, sales and marketing director at Birds Bakery, said: “We’re so proud of Karen for taking part in the London Marathon, especially to support such a worthy cause. To help her raise further funds, we will be selling gingerbread biscuits and donating money from every one we sell.

“We’ve supported WellChild for a number of years and it's important for us to contribute in any way we can."
