Jacksons Bakery and Samworth Brothers Launch Major Apprenticeship Initiatives

Two of the UK’s leading bakery and food manufacturers are stepping up their commitment to nurturing new talent with the launch of expanded apprenticeship programmes.

Jacksons Bakery has unveiled a new partnership with a local college to create a dedicated training academy for aspiring bakers. The initiative, designed to blend practical experience with formal study, allows apprentices to spend part of their week in the bakery honing hands-on skills, while also completing classroom-based learning. The programme focuses on essential bakery techniques, production processes, food safety, and equipment handling, providing participants with the knowledge and confidence to pursue long-term careers in the sector. The first cohort has already started, and early feedback from apprentices highlights the value of learning in a professional, real-world bakery environment.

Meanwhile, Samworth Brothers is expanding its apprenticeship offerings across multiple departments, including manufacturing, technical, and management roles. The company has created new positions to accommodate a growing number of apprentices, giving participants the opportunity to earn while they learn and gain structured, on-the-job training alongside formal qualifications. The initiative includes advanced programmes for line management, reflecting a commitment to developing future leaders within the business.

Both programmes aim to address industry-wide skills gaps, support workforce development, and provide clear pathways for young people into the bakery and food production sector. By investing in apprenticeships, these companies are not only securing the next generation of skilled professionals but also reinforcing the importance of career development within UK food manufacturing.
