STORY: Matthews Cotswold Flour Announces New Bakery Development Manager
Matthews Cotswold Flour, Britain’s leading speciality flour producer, is delighted to announce the appointment of Sophie Carey to the new role of Bakery Development Manager.
Sophie graduated from the National Bakery School at London South Bank University with a first class honours BSc in Bakery Technology Management in 2018. As top student of the year she was admitted into the Worshipful Company of Bakers as a Freeman. Since then, she has acquired a wealth of experience in product development for a number of bakery businesses.
Bertie Matthews, Managing Director of two hundred year old family business, Matthews Cotswold Flour, comments: ”Supporting our customers is a high priority for us and in this new role Sophie is dedicated to working with our trade customers and home bakers to make sure they have all the help they need to succeed. She is available to answer technical baking questions, develop recipes and suggest solutions to any baking problems. It is something we have wanted to do for some time and when I met Sophie, I knew she had all the skills and experience required to add huge value to the business and our customers.”
Sophie Carey explains: “I have always loved baking since, as a child, I helped my mum and grandmother in the kitchen. I have continued experimenting and collecting bakery books through the years and when I saw a university course advertised to study baking at the National Bakery School in London, I felt it was meant to be! This started my career in baking which has allowed me to follow my great love for recipe and product development. I am also passionate about the future of the baking industry and this new role at Matthews Cotswold Flour allows me to combine both.”
