STORY: Rugby star Sam Warburton visits Brace’s

Brace’s Bakery has played host to Welsh rugby international Sam Warburton, to celebrate the bakery’s upcoming collaboration with the star.

Brace’s protein-enriched high fibre bread range is called Sam’s Sport Active and is made up of two 800g loaves, High Protein White and High Protein Prograin, and Sam’s Wheels High Protein Welsh Cakes.

These will be exclusively stocked in Tesco stores across south Wales and the south west of England from this September.

There’s more than 12g of protein in two slices of High Protein White (nearly twice the amount of protein found in two slices of Brace’s Luxury Medium Sliced White).

The High Protein Prograin has 12.2g of protein and 6.8g of fibre in two slices, as well as sunflower seeds, linseed, rye, barley and maize.

The Sam’s Wheels High Protein Welsh Cakes are available in twin packs and are aimed at cycling enthusiasts “looking for an energy-boosting snack”.

Brace’s director Jonathan Brace said: “We’ve been distributing our products for over 100 years now and are well aware of the need to remain reactive to consumer trends and what’s popular.

“We know more and more people are looking to increase the amount of protein in their diets, so it’s important we offer products that meet the needs of the ever-increasing health-conscious shopper.”

Commenting on Sam's visit to the Brace's factory today, the company's social media team said: "A great morning introducing @samwarburton_ to the Brace’s team and showing him around the factory! Who thinks Sam suits the bakers whites?" [Jury's out we say ...looks better in rugby kit.]
