Online marketplace that connects consumers to local bakers makes Small Biz 100
Mums Bake Cakes, an online marketplace that matches consumers from around the world to local, independent UK cake bakers, is celebrating the inclusion in Small Business Saturday’s Small Biz 100.
It means Mums Bake Cakes is part of the 2019 pick of small businesses that will be celebrated nationally in the 100 days leading up to Small Business Saturday on 7 December. The initiative highlights small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and support small businesses in their communities.
In reaction, co-founder Paula Wilkinson said she is determined to keep the focus on the professional baking community: “For us, being included in SmallBiz100 is our way of recognising and celebrating the bakers, many of whom are talented individuals, often without the marketing power to receive orders from around the country or world.”
She added: “Our mission has been to work with the bakers. We want to help make them more profitable, increase the profile of baking and improve local purchases – even from as far afield as Australia.”
Mums Bake Cakes is the only business of its kind operating UK-wide. It vets each professional baker and checks their insurance and registration before they can become part of the UK’s largest baking marketplace. Since its inception in 2016 there are over 500 bakers using the platform to support their business.
