STORY: Roberts goes pink for breast cancer awareness

Roberts Bakery in Cheshire will light up pink through to the end of the month in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The lights celebrate a 10-year partnership between Roberts and the South Manchester-based charity, Prevent Breast Cancer.

The front of the bakery and its iconic cooling towers will glow a vivid shade of pink in a bid to remind the people of Northwich about the importance of being breast aware.

Lindsay Occleston, a breast cancer survivor and fourth generation member of the Roberts family, said: “We were thrilled to light our bakery pink to show our support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Thousands of motorists pass the bakery every day and it is a huge opportunity for us to put breast cancer at the forefront of their minds in such a novel way.

“Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in the UK and sadly 12,000 women still die each year from the disease.

“We want to remind Northwich women that it’s vital to be aware of the risk factors associated with breast cancer and how they can protect themselves from it.”

Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity dedicated to the prediction, prevention and early detection of breast cancer and Roberts has raised more than £150,000 over the last decade to support its pioneering research and campaigning.

The Northwich bakery supported the charity’s BreastFest campaign this October with a series of pink-themed events and fundraisers.

In November, Lindsay’s two children James and Laura will also trek to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer.
