STORY: The Redland Bakery enters liquidation and makes 55 redundant

It has been announced that Bristol-based The Redland Bakery, (which trades as West Country Wholesale Bakers Ltd), has closed its six branches in the city. As a result, 55 people have been made redundant.

Its branches in Winterbourne, Stoke Lane, Staple Hill, Shirehampton, Cotham Hill and Chandos Road all closed without warning on 27 February.

The company has also closed its headquarters on the Severnside Trading Estate in Avonmouth.

Financial services firm Smith & Williamson have said the firm, which was taken over by Andrew Grzybowski in 2002, has made all 55 of its employees redundant.

A Smith & Williamson spokesperson said: “We have been instructed by the director of the company to assist in placing the company into liquidation. The company operated from eight sites across Bristol. …We are aware that support is being given to the employees to enable them to claim anything owed to them. A report is being prepared for creditors who have lost money as a result of the closure.”

People who worked for the company have reported all employees were called to a meeting on 28 February, which is when they were told they had lost their jobs with immediate effect.
